Black Gold: Record Store Day, April 21st

Tomorrow is International Record Store Day, a celebration of the independent record store. Vintage Soul sounds best on black vinyl, any genre for that matter. A long player and its artwork are collectibles. 7” and 12” are often exclusive shit. What a feeling, putting on the needle. Come compact disc, come mp3, Vinyl never went anywhere.
To celebrate the existence of vinyl a string of artists will release limited editions. Gotan Project will be releasing two new tracks Strength To Love, featuring South Africa’s Tumi, and Checkmate/Jaque Mate, blending tango and spoken word. Triggerfinger will put two popular covers on one 10”: the obvious I Follow Rivers, and the recent Do Ya Think I’m Sexy, featuring Little Trouble Kids. Other special releases include ABBA, Arcade Fire, David Bowie, Fleetwood Mac, Intergalactic Lovers, Lana Del Rey, Leonard Cohen, ao.
All through the day acts will be performing live in participating stores. Get up early and make the most of RSD.

La Revancha en Cumbia

The remix, you either love ’em or hate ’em. Personally a sucker for them, one to look forward to is the release of he classic Gotan Project album La Revancha Del Tango, remixed by the hottest new artists from the Nueva Cumbia scene. The remix selection will be available from October 17th. You can either opt for the album as such or a 10 year anniversary Deluxe Box. A classic best left alone? Curious to see if the music can be brought to a different level and if the remixes will come with value added .
